Carter

*sigh*  It’s been such a treat to be able to snuggle and photograph two gorgeous, brand new babies this week.  I love my job.

I first met Carter’s mama, Rachel, two summers ago when I photographed her sister Charlotte’s wedding in PEI.  Rachel & Charlotte are both just so genuinely sweet and lovable.  SO, when the I met up with Charlotte again this summer at a couple of weddings I was photographing and she told me that Rachel was expecting, I was SO SO happy!  Then, when Charlotte made arrangements for me to do a newborn session with them, I was THRILLED!

Carter was such a good little model!  Once his belly was full and he was snuggled, he drifted off and let me do my thing.  Thanks guys for making the long drive…. I’m so glad you did!

Isn’t he SO handsome???

Isabella

I don’t even know where to begin telling you about how amazing little baby Isabella is.  Of course, every baby is a precious gift.  But to Isabella’s mom & dad, she’s an absolute miracle.  After years of struggling with infertility, with the help of some specialists and some Divine assistance, the very tiny, beautiful beginnings of Isabella began in a little dish in a private Halifax clinic.  Her mom, Bobbi, told me that they have pictures of her when she was just a little cell!  Not many people have those kinds of photos for their scrapbooks!  Being a high risk pregnancy, Bobbi had weekly checkups throughout her pregnancy and got to watch Isabella grow at these weekly ultrasounds.  I had the privilege of spending a couple hours with these two ladies this week for a photo session at their home.  I even got to snuggle Isabella for a while!  I feel so honoured to have been asked to photograph such an incredible, gorgeous little girl!

We took all of the images in Isabella’s fabulously decorated bedroom.  Here she is with her beautiful mama…
set11_img6147_bw_img6145set22set41_img6187set31

While visiting with Bobbi during the session, I discovered that she runs her own fashion design studio (Bobbi Leigh Designs) from her home in Fredericton.  She specializes in wedding gowns & accessories as well as formal wear such as prom gowns.  If you’re looking for a fabulous custom gown for your event from one seriously fabulous lady, be sure to call Bobbi!  Her number is 506-453-9988

February 1, 2010 - 1:56 pm Amanda - Isabella is so cute!!! I know Bobbi Leigh... she designed my bridesmaids dresses and did a wonderful job. So glad to see she has gotten her family she has always wanted.

January 29, 2010 - 2:24 pm Jill - Bobbi, she is beautiful and you look so happy. It's great to see. Can't wait to meet her. Heather, as always wonderful pictures.

Self Improvements

I could use some upgrades.  A Heather V2.0, if you will.

These aren’t so much new year’s resolutions (good thing since it’s almost February!).  They are just some relatively smaller things that I’d like to improve about myself and my lifestyle and I figure if I put in on the internet, then maybe they are more likely to happen.  Along with sharing the goals, I’ll share the current reality so that there’s some comparison there by which to measure things later.

Current Reality #1:
I hardly ever read. I buy books because I want to read them… I just don’t do it.  Chapters is one of my favouite stores, and yet I’m not a reader!

Goal #1:
To read a book per month… and not just Levi’s Little Critter’s stories.  An actual book book, like one of the dozens that I’ve bought and haven’t read yet.

Current Reality #2:
I’ve owned this Pilates DVD for approx 3 years now, and the only time I ever turned it on was last week to see how hard it was going to be and I sat and ate a bag of Mini Eggs while watching it.  Not doing it, watching it.

Goal #2:
To actually DO the Pilates workout 3 times each week….. sans Mini Eggs.

Current Reality #3:
We tend to avoid doing the dishes.  Usually, we’ll spend like 10 minutes rearranging the dishwasher to try to cram stuff in instead of just taking 5 minutes and washing them by hand.  Sometimes days go by without washing a frying pan or pot.  There was this one time last year that I actually threw out a $20 roasting pan instead of washing it.  Seriously.

Goal #3:
To do the dishes right after a meal, and therefore cram and run the dishwasher less often.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, my friends.  I’ll report back later on these, and add some new ones to the pile.  Now that you know, world wide web, I pretty much have to follow through.

Stay tuned for images from two newborn sessions this week!

January 30, 2010 - 11:51 am Elisabeth Nixon - AHHHHHHHH!! Ha HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAA! haaaaahahahahahahahhaa. Ahh dear Heather, you bring tears to my eyes with laughter! I want some mini eggs!! :D

January 30, 2010 - 11:45 am Sarah - Ok, so I laughed really hard at #2 and #3. Probably because I can relate with you. It's good to know I'm not the only one. :-)

January 28, 2010 - 4:34 pm Malinda - I can completely relate to your #3... happens all the time in my home as well.

January 28, 2010 - 4:21 pm Danielle Gillan - I have to say your #2 made me laugh out loud, priceless... because I think we can all picture ourselves doing it :) Good luck with Heather 2.0!!! We'll all be following your progress! (in front of our computers with our minieggs no?)

Headshots: Ruthie, Alex & Lee

They’ve been friends since high school, have gone off to University together, and are in New York right now auditioning for theatre schools.  I just LOVE it when people know exactly what they want and they go after it.  I think it’s an incredibly admirable thing and these guys have all the potential to make it all happen.  These guys are SO nice, SO talented, and just SO MUCH FUN.  We got together two weeks ago to do some headshots of them to leave behind with their resumes to the theatre schools.  I was excited to be a part of their process, and I’m glad that I have documented proof that I knew them before they made it big =)

Kris & Kelita [are getting married!]

It was COLD.  But then came anyway.  The snow was DEEP.  But they hiked up hill anyway.  The ground was FROZEN.  But they sat their butts on it anyway.  Yup, I like these two.  Lots.

Besides being total troopers, there’s lots of things that I have already found to like about Kris & Kelita.  For instance, how relaxed they are and how they make you feel comfortable by just being around them.  They are quick to smile and laugh, even at my stupid comments.  How cute they look together in pictures, which makes my job so easy.  That they are taking Dave & I to the Dominican Republic with them in April for a week so I can photograph their wedding. Sitting here on this freezing January day, I’m thinking they might just be my two new favourite people =)

Kris & Kelita, it was a lot of fun braving the cold, windy day with you!  Enjoy your preview!

Craig & Melissa [are getting married!]

AAAAAAANNND I’m back.

I had a great time with these two…. both times!  See, we set out on a gorgeous afternoon just before Christmas to do some engagement photos out in the lightly falling snow.  Sure, it’s all lovely and magical until the snow turns to freezing rain and your client’s hair literally turns into a block of ice and your eyelashes clump together.

For attempt #2 a week or so later, we decided to take it inside to the historic Connell House in Woodstock.  The above freezing temperatures and lack of precipitation made for a much more relaxing experience.  Not that we’re super picky… but you know how it is.

Craig & Melissa, although so different from each other, are a perfect fit as far as I can see.  It was comical the whole way through and I’m looking forward to their wedding in September!

_img4599_img4449_bw_img4629set_img5079_img5170_img5186_img5204_v2_img5233

January 18, 2010 - 2:16 pm Susan - These are fantastic and fun pictures!! I love the light snow in the top ones!!

January 14, 2010 - 2:05 pm Melissa - You know there’s something to be said for the undiscovered holding power of freezing on a hairstyle lol. The frozen eyelashes can pose a bit of a problem however. Thanks so much Heather for battling the elements with us and helping to re-arrange all of Connell House’s furniture for the sake of capturing us in the right light. Hopefully the historical lady isn’t reading this...we’re really looking forward to Sept.

January 13, 2010 - 11:17 pm Anonymous - Beautiful pics - you can definately see the love!

January 13, 2010 - 1:46 pm Anonymous - Love, Love, Love the pictures:) They turned out great despite the major storm we had that day! Big Sister looks so beautiful and of course we cannot deny all the great "smiles" that were captured of Craig! xo

January 13, 2010 - 12:46 pm Cindy - Great Pics guys!!!

Chris & Gillian [are getting married!]

These guys are so cute.

I’ve known Gillian since she was in grade 6 and she joined the high school cheerleading team.  She was just so little and cute and I had the pleasure of being able to throw her around in the air for a few years.  Loved it.  The girl literally had no fear!  No matter what, she was always so happy and bubbly and quick to bust out in a super hearty laugh.  We all just adored her so much.  Now, she’s all grown up and gettin’ married.  *sigh*

Chris adores her too, and that makes me super happy.  From what I can see, she kinda likes him back.

These guys were so much fun to play in the snow with!  They didn’t even blast me with a snowball.  They are just SUCH nice folk.  Can’t wait for their wedding in June =)

When looking at the pictures I have a huge mix of emotions. They make my head scramble and make me want to cry but also smile from ear to ear. I'm so happy and proud of Gill and it's so hard for me to believe that she is getting married. And to the best guy in the world for her. It's like he was specially made JUST FOR YOU!! Congratulations Chris and Gillian, I can't wait to take part in your special day! Love you guys -K

January 7, 2010 - 4:59 pm Elisabeth Nixon - Oh I love these! it looks COOOLD though! it's cold here - I can't imagine how cold it must be there. :) We left the house and it was 35 degrees this morning - what's up with that? This is FLORIDA!! Anyway, these guys are so cute, and even though it's a lot of "white" you totally make them interesting and fun - love it!

I’ve got issues (the email kind, that is…)

First of all, I do have sessions and stuff to post, I just haven’t had the chance yet!  I will soon, I promise!

SO, I am posting this notice that I am having some serious issues with emails not coming through.  If you have tried to contact me and haven’t heard back, I’m not being rude - I swear!  I’ve had calls and second emails from several brides who had sent me emails using my websites contact form that I have never received.  I am in the process of switching website hosting to fix the problem, and I really apologize about the hassle and delays in getting you the info you are looking for.  So please, if you’re still waiting to hear from me, maybe just give a call instead (506.324.0741) and I’ll take care of ya.

Thanks!!

January 7, 2010 - 4:29 pm Samantha - These pictures are just beautiful. You do a really good job:)

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone!!

SO, about the photo….

This summer at a yard sale, I found the missing piece… a matching sweater for Levi.  I almost went into hysterics with excitement.  Ok, maybe I did a little.  See, last December Dave and I set out to find super ugly Christmas sweaters to wear to his Christmas party for work.  We were completely floored when we found closely coordinating sweaters at the local used clothing outlet.  So, naturally, we snapped those right up.  They never crossed our minds again after the party until several months later when I found a miniature version of the ugly sweater while rummaging through some children’s clothing at a yard sale.  It became very clear to me at that moment what needed to be done:  one super cheesy family photo for a holiday card.

This photo couldn’t be much more opposite from the real us.  Aside from the matching sweaters and lame pose, my absolute favourite detail is Dave’s mustache that he crafted just in the spirit of the photo.  Special thanks to my buddy, Kristina for helping to make this magical image possible!

_img3562_v4

January 8, 2010 - 8:46 pm Marley Anderson - Heather! I laugh EVERY time I see this! and Levi really looks impressed! lol

January 6, 2010 - 12:24 pm Andrea Langdon - You guys crack me up. I love it.

December 26, 2009 - 11:46 am Kristina - So.. as you can all see here this photo is HILARIOUS! However, try showing up at Heather and Dave's place to take the photos and be welcomed by Dave in his sweater with the moustache. I was SHOCKED and Dave was just being all casual and never said a word about his new look and I was very uncomfortable because the questions crossed my mind... is this for REAL!? No.. can't be! haha I love you guys!! PS- Pam's comment was" I actually think its really cute!!"

December 26, 2009 - 1:08 am Elisabeth Nixon - There are no words. No, there are actually a LOT of words. I love the headband. And how far back on your head you're wearing it. The sled is a NICE touch, as is your ultra posey pose. The mustache....hnestly, it makes me just a LITTLE bit uncomfortable. And makes me have ot RUN to the bathroom because I'm laughing so hard I might just pee myself. Seriously, this is the funniest picture I have ever....EVER...seen. Merry Christmas, dear ones!! :D

Photobooth: Jim & Tanya’s Wedding

There’s this really fun trend that’s been growing in North America to have a photo booth at your wedding reception.  Now, that just sounded like a good time to me, so I decided to set one up at Jim & Tanya’s wedding and just let their guests loose in it.  Unlike a traditional photo booth, I was actually there taking all of the images and I had a BLAST with these guys!!  Their guests loved it, my assistant and I loved it, and most importantly… Jim & Tanya loved it.  Due to the extreme fun levels, this is now officially something that I am offering as an add-on to any wedding.  If I’m photographing your wedding next year and you want in on that action, just let me know and I’ll give you the details!

Here’s a few of my favourites:
blog1blog2blog3

January 2, 2010 - 6:48 pm Tanya and Jim - We would highly recommend the Photobooth! It was one of the most memorable parts of our wedding and our guests absolutely loved it!! The pictures will provide us with entertainment and blackmail material for years to come :)

December 27, 2009 - 8:49 pm Holly Christie - These are absolutely priceless....what a treasure for Jim and Tanya to have in years to come!

December 26, 2009 - 1:12 am Arleigh MacDonald - This was so much fun. We all laughed until we had tears rolling down our faces. Keep it going Heather and your lovely assistant Christina.

December 24, 2009 - 11:14 am Elisabeth Nixon - Haaaaaa! Ha Ha Ha Ha HAAA!! :) So much fun....someday I'll offer this too, I just think a photobooth has to be the BEST part about modern weddings :)

December 24, 2009 - 9:18 am Sue Pemberton - I love this idea, it looks like so much fun!!

Levi: One year old

My little boy turned one yesterday.  (insert deep sigh here)

As I was getting a massage yesterday afternoon, I was thinking how much better I felt at that moment than I did at that exact time last year.  Obviously, he was a bit of a pain at the time…. and often still is!  But, I can honestly say he’s been the best thing ever and I’ve loved (almost) every minute of it.  He’s so funny and so cuddly and gives the best big slobbery kisses a mama could ever hope for.  He has brought us SO MUCH fun & happiness and I am overwhelmingly thankful for him.  I could never possibly deserve such an amazing gift, but I’m happy to take  it anyway! =)

My top 10 favourite things about Levi so far (in random order):

  1. Our bedtime snuggles
  2. How cute he looks naked (or in anything!)
  3. How he shares his food with his puppy when he thinks we’re not watching
  4. How he makes motor sounds with his mouth when he plays with trucks and tractors
  5. How every morning when Dave brings him into bed with us, the first thing he does is crawl up and give me a kiss
  6. His laugh/squeals… especially when you tickle or chase him
  7. He’s just so passionate about eating (just like his daddy) and it’s hilarious!
  8. His buzz cut, button nose, dimply butt cheeks, chubby hands & feet, those blue eyeballs…
  9. The faces he makes.  He’s always made a large variety and kept us entertained!  My current favourite is the nose scruntch smile.
  10. How he blabbers on about stuff all day, and even moans until he finally falls asleep.
  11. How excited he is to see you if you’ve been gone for a bit
  12. How he laughs at himself when he knows he’s being funny

I could go on and on!  But, obviously what you want is some pictures!  This took me a long time to do, but I’ve narrowed down the masses of images from the past year to large handful of 30-40 favourites…

December 18, 2009 - 3:50 pm Elisabeth Nixon - Oh I loved this! memory lane....gosh it seems like just the other day we were talking about how "maybe someday soon" you and Dave would procreate...and now it's been a whole year since he's arrived! :) And isn't it funny how nobody can accurately describe exactly how it FEELS to be a mother....unless you've been there. Love ya, happy birthday to Levi and I hope you guys had a special day yesterday!!

December 18, 2009 - 3:24 pm Karen Alexander - Absolutely beautiful Heather.......just have one question......do you hide that tractor when David comes to visit....? Levi is a beautiful little man and it's been fun watching his first year in pictures!!

Grad: Cheyenne [ NHS ]

I’m still alive!!!!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, but I’m just now coming out of the depths of my “to do” sticky notes, company ordering deadlines and trips to the Canada Post outlet.  It’s been pretty wild around here the past few weeks trying to design numerous wedding albums and fulfilling bazillions of client orders in time for Christmas.  Aside from a near hyperventilation attack at the possibility that Canada Post lost a VERY important package going to a bride out west, I think I’m going to make it through with relatively minimal drama this year =)

So, yesterday I had the ridiculously fabulous privilege of photographing Cheyenne out in the snow.  She showed up lookin’ all super fine after having her make-up done by Patti at Made You Blush here in Woodstock.  She seemed up for anything, so we loaded up my awesome new vintage chair that I’ve been just dying to use for a session and headed down the road.  Basically, Cheyenne + snow + vintage green chair = a very very happy Heather.  Don’t they just look FABULOUS together??

set11_img3772_v21_img37351set21_img3872set3_img3969_img4000

My favourite little boy in the whole world turns one tomorrow, so I’ll be doing a big post tomorrow with lots of pictures from the past year!  I also have pictures from a fun extra that I did at my last wedding, some images of my new albums I want to show, as well as one seriously cheesy winter family photo that we did this year for fun =)  All of that is coming SOON!!

December 20, 2009 - 2:49 am Ann Wade :) - errr all's well THAT ends well rather

December 20, 2009 - 2:48 am Ann Wade :) - Haha I get a shout out as the "bride out west" :) All's well than ends well!

December 19, 2009 - 12:12 pm Natalie - Awesome as always Heather, love the chair, bet you were freaking when you came across that at a yard sale, I know I would. I love chairs and I have to start getting rid of some soon I think. haha

December 17, 2009 - 11:40 am Heather - I found the chair at a yard sale!

December 17, 2009 - 11:11 am liza - Where is this snazzy chair from??

Isaiah

This handsome little man is my newest nephew, Isaiah.  He was born last Tuesday and we’re awfully excited to have him join the family!  We spent some time together yesterday afternoon, and after a while he finally gave in and drifted off to sleep.  I photographed him as long as I could until the light was gone.  Here’s some of my favourites….

Luke & family

This little bundle of cuteness is Luke, and he was born just last week.  He was tuckered out and didn’t mind being handled and posed, nor did he get bothered by all of the excited affection from his two older sisters, Hannah & Gracie.  He just kept on sleeping and was such a cooperative little model!  Thank you, Ben & Shawna for inviting me into your home to photograph your beautiful family!  Here’s a handful of favourites….

Emma

I have to admit that on Monday morning I really wasn’t feeling like getting out of bed, and definitely not feeling like heading out into the cold fall morning to take pictures.  I rushed around to get myself ready and Levi ready to take to my parents and was feeling rather scattered and being creative was quite far from my mind.  Then I met up with Emma, and she changed everything.  She was just so happy & playful and she wanted me to play too…. so I did… and it was awesome =)  MUCH better than sitting at my computer editing!  Emma, you are such a sweetie and you made my day!  Here’s just a small sample of some of my favourites…
